My wife is the reason that I am back into painting. About four
years ago, I got very sick. While rehabilitating at home (feeling
sorry for myself,) my wife saw me doing a thumbnail sketch. Well,
she went out and bought me a used drawing table. I started painting
and I have not stopped. I have rediscovered the bold lines and colors
that reflect life and nature to me. I have found myself again through
my art and I have a lot to reflect.
I was born in Guantanamo, Cuba and was raised in San Diego, California.
I have to draw just about all of my life. I started studying art
in high school, and later graduated from Southern Utah State College
with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts in 1977.
I am an 18 year veteran of the San Diego Police Department and
I am a detective. The people that have influenced me with my art
were two professors in college: Prof. T. Leak and Prof. G. Anderson.
They were members of President Nixon's national artists society.
They were among the ten best watercolorists in the country at the
time. These two gentlemen had passion for art that they passed on
to me. They also believed in me and showed me how to believe in
myself, express myself through my art, and to continue striving
to be better.
I have painted several works for private collectors and the Bureau
of Land Management in 1978. I have two works now displaying in the
2001 Del Mar Fair. I am also a member of the San Diego Watercolor
Society.
