The artist James DeMarche was born in 1932 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was educated in New England. He lives with his Caroline on a 60 -foot sailboat in Ventura Harbor, California. Mr. DeMarche is a self-taught artist, coming from a family with a long line of award-winning painters and sculptors. He works in many mediums including oil and acrylic painting, pencil, pen and ink, clay and carved sculpture and architectural design. He uses photographs, sketches and his imagination to create his images.
In 1999, Mr. DeMarche was selected by the U.S. National Park Service for a one-man show depicting the moods of the Channel Islands National Park off the California coast. He also produces a successful ling of Channel Island note cards. His favorite subjects include land and seascapes, maritime, aircraft and fantasy scenes. Mr. DeMarche's philosophy of art is depiction of romantic realism, seeking to convey the images that underlay movement, excitement and mood in order to tell a story.
