Kevin Martin

From his earliest memories in New York, art had always been a part of Kevin Martin's life. He credits his parents as one of the reasons why he chose to become a professional artist. Both parents sketched from life and drew portraits. The other reason was his desire to imitate some of the great illustrators of the past, like N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, and Maxfield Parrish. The intricate glazing process employed by Parrish has long fascinated Kevin and he uses similar technique to build vibrant colors seen in his paintings. Another technique Kevin employs is to do color sketches first on the computer and then bring forward the finished picture to canvas.

Kevin's images combine the laws of realism and hint at the otherworldly. His works contain symbols that derive from unconscious. Symbols such as the dragon, misted valley or free flying bird that resonate within each of us. Kevin believes that a painting should exist foremost as a good piece of design that combines movement with balance of color and light.

His work won a Certificate of Merit in 1977 from the Society of Illustrators' National Scholastic Competition. It was also displayed at science fiction / fantasy art galleries in Los Angeles and Laguna Beach, California fro 1977 to 1980.

Kevin returned to the east coast in 1983 and works as an art director for Siemens ICN.
