In high school my art teacher recognized my artistic talent and was able to secure a scholarship to Pratt Institute of Art. I chose however to attend the University of Florida on an athletic scholarship. Throughout the years I continued to be interested in art and attended workshops and seminars. I acquired a vast library on art technique, educating myself and developing my own style.
While working outdoors for the last 45 years in teaching, I also worked part time at beaches and parks, painting seascapes and landscapes. After retiring I turned to teaching art and showing my work in local galleries. Even though I won several awards what really motivated me was to create visual images that moved people.
I believe artists are historians. They are visual musicians who orchestrate the things they see into images that elicit emotions and stir the senses. I hope my paintings take you to a happy time in your life, to memories you may have had appreciating nature. To capture a moment in time and preserve that moment is the most gratifying experience.
I continue to travel throughout the Southeastern United States painting beaches and parks. I am most inspired by early seascape artists Frederick J. Waugh, William Trost Richards and contemporary artist E. John Robinson. |
