Sayed Rawi, born in Cairo, Egypt was awarded an Associate Degree
in Fine Arts from the American University in Cairo in 1974 and a
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from AL-AZHR University in Cairo.
Meanwhile, he worked as an illustrator for public TV and different
publications, including Franklin, a well-known publisher of a full-scale
illustrated children's encyclopedia. Shortly thereafter Rawi was
assigned to work as an illustrator and marketing designer for NAJD,
the biggest advertising company in Saudi Arabia. He also served
as the Art Director for the children's program on public TV for
three years.
In 1983, Sayed moved to the United States to study art at the University
of North Carolina, Greensboro. He also earned a Masters Degree in
Marketing from North Carolina A & T University, Greensboro.
Quickly he found himself in "Paint the Town," a community
sponsored mural project whose aim was to create and enhance the
beautification of downtown Greensboro. Sayed also taught the youngsters
art at the Greensboro Art Center and YMCA for several years. "Instead
of teaching the children, the children taught me how to see things
in a correct-non-manner objective with God's eyes!" he
says.
In 1993 Sayed earned a diploma in Computer Animation from the school
of Communication Arts in Raleigh, North Carolina to develop his
classic vision in art with the most sophisticated trends in modern
technology.
The last decade has provided many commissions for many different
companies, agencies and institutions like RJR in Winston Salem,
NC. Sayed has also had numerous solo and juried exhibitions. His
paintings are available for viewing in many places around the United
States, including the Center for Creative Leadership located in
Greensboro, NC.
Since moving to the United States Sayed has been trying to reach
a common-ground or harmony between the Eastern and Western cultures.
His vision comes from his childhood, living on the valley of the
Nile of Egypt. His style is much more diverse with influences from
Egyptology, the Orient, African Triablism, draghitev's ballets russ,
the industrial age in Europe - The United States and the grand B's
(Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms.) Sayed received an award from the
Caswell Council of the Arts with his canvas interpretation of Johann
Brahms 4th Symphony, which supplements his previous award from the
International Youth Conference in Berlin, Germany for his painting
inspired by Brahms Hungarian Dance.
Sayed also enjoys painting in a rural, quiet region in North Carolina
full of wildlife. In his words, "I am fascinated with the
musical rhythm of the hills and valleys here, like the Austrian
landscape which inspired me to transform it [into] picturesque scenes...
poems. Paradise is where I am!"
