Tara Houston

Born in 1974, Tara Houston was raised in the Pacific Northwest. At a very early age she developed a passion for wildlife and discovered a special artistic talent.

A self taught artist, Tara mainly grew up a Pen and Ink artist winning many local, regional and state competitions. In her late teens, Tara took on many art commissions and was rapidly making a name for herself as an accomplished artist.

It wasn’t until 1999 that she decided to take up the medium of Watercolor. “I really wanted the world to see my art, to share in my inspiration and love of the natural world. My true inner expression comes through in my watercolors where I find so much hope, beauty and serenity in the world around me.“

With inspiration from great artists like Jody Bergsma, Charles Frace and Morten E. Solberg, Tara strives to find her place in the art world. Rapidly learning and developing new techniques, Tara’s own unique watercolor style can be seen emerging in galleries and at art shows throughout the state of Washington.

With no formal art training, Tara finds the greatest classroom is the outdoors. “I spend countless hours at the library studying art techniques. But any spare moment I have is spent outdoors traveling and learning from what nature has to teach us. The face to face encounter with a grizzly bear or the silent study of snowy owl, these are real time experiences that I take to my drawing table.”

Tara currently lives in Bellingham, Washington, with her boyfriend Carlos, where the two enjoy hiking, biking, flying and frequent travels to Alaska.
